Artificial Intelligence-Enabled Wireless Sensors and IoT to Support Nurse Awareness, Acceptance and Willingness to Use: A Review

Abstract
The main aim of this review was to answer the three research questions posed by the background information on wireless sensors and the Internet of Things (IoT) to support nurse awareness, with particular attention to the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning within these sensing systems. The topic was extended to nurses’ willingness and implementation of using IoT to support nurse awareness. Google Scholar was searched to identify papers relevant to the review topic. The PRISMA flow diagram was used to screen and select papers for this review. These processes targeted 25 papers eligible for this review; when 25 papers were selected, the search for papers was stopped.
The first question was answered by describing the various available technologies. The second question was answered by the finding that nurses with adequate education and skills use
wireless sensors and IoT if these technologies facilitate smooth workflows, improve patient care and support a good balance between work and life. The third question was answered by
exploring the factors determining IoT support for nurses’ use of wireless sensors. However, due to the severe lack of papers, there is only weak evidence for answering the third question.
Some recommendations for practice and research and some limitations of this review are provided at the end.
